FOUR-WEEK PRAYER VIGIL

Never underestimate the power of prayer. The Apostle James assures us that, “The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective” (James 5:16 NRSV). It is the privilege of every believer to be able to approach the throne of God freely and without fear. We want to encourage you to use that freedom during the month of April to lift up our church during your daily prayers in four specific areas: the Calvary Pastoral Search Team, our next Pastor/Head of Staff, our current staff and leadership, and our church as a whole. This guide includes a prayer focus and scripture for each day of the prayer vigil. The daily focus will also be available on our website and our Facebook page.

Our vigil will begin on Sunday, April 3rd and conclude on Saturday, April 30th. Our plan is for everyone to focus on the same prayer concern each day of the vigil. The overall concern for the week will be mentioned in the congregational prayers each Sunday. We will have additional prayer booklets available each Sunday.

A Word on Fasting: You will notice that there is an optional day of fasting each week during the vigil. The purpose of fasting is to give up a specific activity and then devote the time to prayer. In this sense, fasting might mean skipping a meal, giving up snacks between meals, or even skipping one of your favorite programs and spending the time in prayer instead. The point is to intentionally dedicate some “extra” time to prayer for a specific purpose.
